Brand new Corsair RM1000x leaking power.

stratege1401

In order to build my new rig, I bought a brand new Corsair RM1000x ... Unfortunately, she's leaking electricity to the case...

Never experienced such thing... The PSU plugged and standing on a wood table is a real danger... Unfortunately, don't have a multi-meter for measurement in order to take  a picture, but believe me, it is quite a shocker ...

RMA and exchange tomorow

Simple rules:

- If it works, dont update it.

- You don't know how, just do it, you will learn.

- Test, restest, test again, and maybe it will do it.

Good word choice.

So you actually feel it if you would touch it?

Quote or mention me if not feel ignored

I have ground. I think a screw has cut the fan line, because it is not turning.

I highly doubt thats the case, most likely its the feature of the PSU (most of the corsairs new psu's have passive cooling up until %60 load)

"Dangerous PSU"?

More like dangerous user.

Your AC outlet's not grounded.. OR... even worse... your neutral or hot is shorted to ground.  If the PSU itself had a short, it wouldn't turn on at all.

The PSU is grounded to the case because the ground wire inside the PSU goes from the AC input to a ground wire that's screwed to the PSU housing... so if there's no ground or a hot to ground, it's going to energize the case.

You should address the actual problem instead of assuming the problem is the PSU.

Of course, I'm not left with the impression you know what you're doing as you bought a PSU that is clearly advertised as having a Zero-RPM mode (Silent Running?  It's that an 80's pop song?) where the fan doesn't start until 40°C or 40% load.

Maybe consider a Dell... and an electrician.

Completely agree. the PSU is fine. OPs house is a fire hazard.

side note: i appreciate that you have Stinkoman as your profile pic.

Went out to my reseller this morning . Was able to reproduce the leak. And to use a multimeter to measure it. 12 volts at 55 Amps. Witch show a real default on the main rail.

And concerning all your explanation and calling me a dangerous user, screw you. I am a certified electric tech. I build my house myself and  a I am fucking pretty sure my outlet are connected to the yellow/green ground line. Further more, you were not in front of the PSU. You did not receive the electric shock. I did. My son did. So easy to point fingers to other.

When I wrote dangerous PSU, I am talking about this particular unit. Not the whole series. My reseller used a black box UT120c to measure the shirt to ground. 120 homs and 12v/55 @mps. He shot a video for the RMA ... Just email him for a copy...

The new reimplacemznt RM1000x is just fine. ( Tested in the shop, of course.)
