by that logic I have 13 HALs under my desk...

 

what are they sending a laptop there or what?

or just two LG G6 phones?

But the i386 made on something like 14nm would actually be interesting.

But it would be fun to use an entire wafer for one chip, heat dissipation would be either great or horrible. 

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Keep in mind people that commonly astronauts take Linux laptops with them up to the station so there *is* other compute power up there. It's not like all data is beamed down to the surface in real time.

 

An i386 couldn't even handle encoding an h.264 data stream for streaming video like a couple astronauts do. These IBM Thinkpads do a lot of the actual high level data control on the station.

 

This is being looked at from a perspective of how viable it is for replacing systems like the US MDMs and Russian CCM which are using i386s. These are the systems that control the low level communication and control of subsystems on the station.
