How many lumens is enough?

Go to solution Solved by vanished,

if you're talking a display, you don't have much choice.  the vast majority are between 300 and 250, which is more than enough for all but an outdoor use case scenario, and they can also be turned down if it's too much.

I just want to use my computer like the average person, play some games, and edit some videos. I have 1 question however, How many nits are enough nits for a monitor?

I know what a lumen is, 1 candle's brightness, and a nit is 1 CD/m2 (One Candle's worth of brightness per square meter. But I want a sense of knowing how much is too dark and too bright.

If it doesn't hurt my eyes, I'm fine with it. If it does hurt my eyes, there better be a NIGHT THEME 2.0 or we're gonna have some issues.

I don't pay much attention other than what my eyes say. I also normally keep screen brightness around 50%. (At work and at home)

Cool, same here, but I want a idea of how bright a set amount of lumens is.

It depends on what you are speaking of.

The RGB in your case, keyboard or mouse / display output

Normal brightness would be 200-300 nits according to "the internet"

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

To compare maybe take a display you have and search the lumens of it online. Open a white page and put on max brightness. See if you like it and buy according to your findings. Also maybe try at different times of the day in the room you will put your new screen and see if it's any good

I've got a 1000 lumen flashlight.... :ph34r::ph34r: And I forget how bright my Maglite is, but it can blind you with your eyes shut.
