When it first came out, i was 100% i was getting the 7700k because it outperformed the 1700 in gaming by a lot (10-30 fps). After watching recent benchmarks i saw that at 1440p, there was no difference between both CPUs in gaming. So i will ask again, should i just go for the 1700? I'm not a content creator, i don't stream, i just game, but why would i get the 7700k if the FPS are the same with the 1700, which can do a lot more than just gaming. I also heard that Ryzen CPUs need faster RAM, is that true? I never payed much attention to ram speed because in gaming the difference was literally like 2 fps. I think mine is 2133Mhz, will it affect my performance on the 1700?. Or what about the AM4 platform? will i notice any difference? is it as stable as Intel's?

They dont NEED faster ram, it's just that Ryzen CPUS perform better with faster ram. Generally you can expect about 10 fps difference because of ram, 20 in extreme cases on Ryzen. I think you should get a 1700 because it is a much better long term investment. Intel's high end mainstreams will only go up to 6 cores with coffee lake, so the I fully expect the Ryzen cpus to be very competitive still.

To address your concerns about stability, the AM4 platform is very stable and you should be able to use it without problems. Just mind the overclock, they don't have much headroom.

I'm waiting for Coffee lake pls don't hurt me

This is where it comes down to preference and the power of your peripherals. Say you only have a 1080p monitor, with say, 144hz, 1ms. Should you go with the ryzen 7 1700, with more threads and cores and better multi-core performance (video editing, recording, etc.) or are you just a hard core gamer, and would be better off with the i7-7700k's insane single core performance.

that is true right now but as gpus get stronger and stronger there will be a difference in 1440p like we are seeing at 1080p. now if game engines begin to run well with more cores then it may not matter by that time but it really depends. I would say either cpu is a good choice and it really comes down to preference and if you think more cores is the future or not or you think you want the platform with longer support.

yeah you can get massive performance differences between 3200mhz and 2133mhz DDR4. You really want faster ram if you're going Ryzen. However, I'd wait a couple weeks until Coffee Lake specs are confirmed and a release date is announced. If you just game , odds are the 6 core i5 or the 6 core 12 thread i7 will be better options than BOTH of those chips by a long way. If the single core performance is the same as Kaby Lake, and the price stays the same, then it will have enough cores to be safe for the future, but enough single core performance for games to be happy with even the fastest graphics cards. Even now the 7700k is probably the better gaming CPU, but if there are 12 thread i7's, it won't even be close.

I'll wait, but in the case i decide the 1700 is a better option, is it really worth it spending 290$ on the CPU, 150$(Or more) on a Motherboard, 130$ on 3200mhz RAM. People talk about ryzen being cheap, yet i need to buy 130$ Ram kits for it to perform as expected?

There is up to 40% performance difference between 2133mhz and 3600mhz ram on ryzen, this is by no means "10FPS". Its more on a level like "Sandybridge vs Skylake" gaming performance, depending if you are willing to pay 50 more bucks for ram or not. -.-

Ryzen is called "cheap" because u get a 8C/16T on a normal Desktop Plattform for a reasonable pricetag. It might not be cheaper to buy a quality build with Ryzen then buying a quality build with z270, but its definitely cheaper then building x299. You have alot of budget options but you get what you pay for thats life in Hardware business.

I personally would wait for the 8700k and probably buy it if gaming means anything to you, it'll most likely have the same multithreading performance and a higher gaming performance then R7 1700.
