Phone for my sister

Chaos_Sorcerer

My sister is looking for a phone upgrade. I've managed to convince her that eBay can and will be a decent source for finding one, and she doesn't know jack shit about phones but I do know some things, so I set in a couple of filters and found two decent options.

eBay links are currently now allowed, so I will tell you that we have chosen an LG V10 H900. WillMyPhoneWork says that it's compatible with Koodo (which she will be using), but I would like to verify this with some more knowledgeable people (the ones reading this right now). Will it work on Koodo?

Her second choice is the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active G890A. Again, WillMyPhoneWork says that it'll be good with 3G and 4G, but we would just like to double-check before purchasing.

And yes, both phones are listed as unlocked.

Got no idea. My brother has the S6 (non-edge). The fundamental problem is that the processors in all 2015 phones were notoriously inefficient. Sticking a bigger battery in the phone does help, but its not solving the core of the issue, just covering it up.

We both think it looks awesome in the white variant. But seriously, any issues?

I haven't seen an unlocked S7 for anything under $350. Even then, $280 is a bit of a stretch for my younger sis.

If you buy locally you can negotiate and you can definitely get one for 280.Isn't a decent condition S6 Active 250 anyways

Yes, either of those phones will work on Koodo, however I wouldn't get the LG V10 for reasons already mentioned.

The Samsung should get excellent battery life, but it only gets Android 6.x...not sure how much you care about updates.

Have you looked locally for an Axon 7? I've seen them quite cheap at times. Same with the Moto Z Play.

Considering the S6 Active gets better battery life than every current flagship, I don't think it matters if the core issue is there or not ;)

Can't find a Moto Z Play for anything under $350...which is the price of a Galaxy S7. I can also only find an Axon 7 mini.

We've found a G5 for the same price as the Active...and my sister prefers the look...but I think the Active is a better phone overall...

The G5 is a horrible phone. Poor battery life, boot loop issues, plastic feel even though it's metal.

I actually prefer the Z Play to the S7, but everyone's uses are of course different.

There's always the LeEco S3 and Pro 3, though I'm not sure how they've fared over time.
