Ryzen 7 1700 OC

Hi,

so I've tried to overclock my new CPU (Ryzen 7 1700) via the asus AI suite auto overclock, since I have never overclocked a CPU in bios, I've read that the Ryzen 7 should go to at least 3.9 GHz without any problems, I've tried it 3x and it only got to 3850 MHz when it crashed, and reverted to 3,8 GHz as final result with max. watts of 130.2 W, max. voltage @ 1.373 V and max. temp @ 29 °C (running with corsair hydro h110i). my question is, do I have a chance to OC the CPU at or above 3.9 GHz through BIOS? or should I stay with this 3.8 setup?

Thanks

the rig is: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4f9Zbj

I think something is wrong with those temps...

How did you measure them?

If you want a good readout, using the aida64 stresstest is a good option.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

umm both aida64, corsair link and ai suite show the same temps

Check with either AMD Master Utility or HWInfo.

Unless you have negative ambiente temps, those cpu temperatures are basically impossible.

You should also OC through the BIOS. Software has quircks. Watch some tutorials on youtube.

Ditch the software oc and learn to oc in the bios those software gimmicks for overclocking are wonky at best just watch a shitload of youtube videos on oc'ing your cpu and it will be golden.

They are fixed, they had to or senseMI would be broken AF.

And still 29°C under full load is impossible. Unless the rad of the h110i is in a bucket full of ice which it probably isn't.

Most can do 3.8-3.9 according to silicon lottery not 3.9-4.0. Not with 100% stability.

Ryzen 1700X and 1800X are higher binned chips and should do 3.9-4.0 much easier.

As others have said use Ryzen master to check temps though Hwinfo is good too make sure your VRM temps are below 100C as well.

according to tests from ( i think Gamers Nexus) are there no differences in overclocking between the 1700, 1700x and 1800x

Gamernexus doesn't have 100 chips lol they have what a couple of each you can't go by binning that way Silicon lottery even list that 1700 basically all do 3.8 but less do 3.9 then 1700x or 1800x

Ryzen 7 1700
93% reach 3.8GHz @ 1.376V
70% reach 3.9GHz @ 1.408V
20% reach 4.0GHz @ 1.440V

Ryzen 7 1700X
100% reach 3.8GHz @ 1.360V
77% reach 3.9GHz @ 1.392V
33% reach 4.0GHz @ 1.424V

Ryzen 7 1800X
100% reach 3.8GHz (assumed)
97% reach 3.9GHz @ 1.376V
67% reach 4.0GHz @ 1.408V
20% reach 4.1GHz @ 1.440V

It's a waste of money for sure but still like i said 1700 is more likely to hit 3.8 then 3.9 or 4.0

Also at overclocker.net a user got a Ryzen 1800X for just $349.99 and it overclocks at any frequency with much less voltage then his 1700 i spent 320$ on my 1700 i would have easily spent the extra 30$ on the 1800X.

But i enjoy overclocking and tweaking i still haven't decided on what i want to set my CPU to running at stock at this very second getting higher speed memory makes a huge difference however.

If on a budget or living in the real world lol i'd easily without no doubt recommend a Ryzen 1700 and save the money and get 3200mhz memory.

A new video just from a day ago its crazy i mean we are seeing 20+ FPS at times from just faster memory.

I think we'll see a bit more yet the platform is young as they continue optimize we should continue to see improvement!

Take my word for it I did the same thing you are doing get rid of that software I mean literally remove it from your system, reset your cmos and enter your bios and set to optimized defaults and boot your rig, confirm your seeing the default settings check your temps are correct then go back into the bios and start to overclock I believe your boost clock is 3.7 start with 3.75Ghz each time run stability test and confirm then continue til unstable if it's not where you want to be yet then start to up the voltage until stable again also keep a close eye on your temps there is a threshold and that will be your deciding factor as to how high your willing to run your rig at.

Don't sweat it I'm a noob as well my first two builds are both Ryzen systems a 1600x and 1800x as you can see I didn't think I would grasp it either so I wound up spending a few extra dollars O.o on x cpu's as a hedge in case I didn't get it so take it from me its easy and you'll have a great performing pc when your done

have you touched the SenseMI setting at all? any idea what the temp is in your room? (my 1700 hits 65c max under stress tests, so it might be a wonky temp sensor if you havent messed with SenseMI in BIOS.) that being said, dont know if the auto OC feature does to alter the senseMI option on its own... could be the problem?
try just typing in the options manually in BIOS? Also, Aida64 is less of a stresser than Realbench (I check my OC with the stress option in Realbench)

have you touched the SenseMI setting at all? any idea what the temp is in your room? (my 1700 hits 65c max under stress tests, so it might be a wonky temp sensor if you havent messed with SenseMI in BIOS.) that being said, dont know if the auto OC feature does to alter the senseMI option on its own... could be the problem?
try just typing in the options manually in BIOS? Also, Aida64 is less of a stresser than Realbench (I check my OC with the stress option in Realbench)

I haven't done anything to the SenseMI since I have no idea what that is, should I set it somehow? god I need to start learning stuff

room temp is 25-30 in summer at my flat, around 20 at my parent's house. and idle temp of cpu is shown in screens. I couldn't get 3.9GHz out of it, 3.8 gives me 1612 score in cinebench
