what is the most quiet hard drive?

Symbolz

WD Green 3 or 4TB due to an extra robust enclosure.

There might be quieter but these are darn quiet.

WD greens are really quiet [running one in my on-at-night PC]. But they're 5400rmp. so for data storage. Sucky for programs.

what winds out of reds v greens?

Greens are for light computing with minimal power intake and noise out put. For regular PCs.

Reds are made to run 24/7 for NAS operation, RAID arrays, and server computing.

Something like the 2.5" WD Green would probably be the quitets HDD out there.

But the 3,5" WD Greens are also really quite.

As @Bluejay0 said: the Reds and Greens are designed for different things. The Reds aren't quiter than the Greens in my experience. The performance difference between the two is negligible.

WD Green, but you can still hear the mechanical devices moving, mostly when the reading heads are parking. SSD's are ultra quiet tough.

I have a WD green in my system. Very quiet, even in my cheapo case.

LOOK AT MY TUBE, MY TUBE IS AMAZING. DONT LICK IT IT DOESN'T TASTE LIKE ANYTHING. IT DOESN'T HAVE A MANE OR PENIS EITHER. SHUT UP.
