URGENT! Changed CPU, system won't boot

Go to solution Solved by Kenji the Uke,

You have to re-install windows when you change your motherboard

Hello.

As the title says, I changed the CPU and Mobo and everything, I just kept the HDD with Windows.

The board is MSI Z270 SLI PLUS. CPU is 7600k.

The system posts into BIOS, it's all good.

It even recognizes the HDD as shown in the photo. It just won't boot into Windows. The HDD is set as first boot device. I changed to different SATA ports, nothing works.

Please help.

Thank you.

It sucks but for some reason Microsoft considers a new mobo a new computer entirely, so you will need to reinstall it entirely.

Not of its windows 10. W10 is tied to your Microsoft account, not hardware. It should run out fine. However a reinstall may help for other reasons.

Very sorry man ;w; You can try to reinstall windows with a USB drive and use your key again, though I dont know if keys are reusable :v

Previous was Windows 7. Was going to buy the key for 10 and make a bootable USB. I bought a m.2 ssd also to install it there.

You can use your W7 key for w10, doesn't matter that it's new hardware. W7 doesn't support Kaby Lake and Ryzen afaik.

But I still need a USB to install it.

Damn 17$ is cheap. I found it for 25€. Cant imagine why stores sell it for 150+...

Btw, after I save some documents from old Windows partition, can I just format it to get rid of old windows?

You don't need to buy it. Use your 7 key to activate.
