Worst nightmare

I don't tend to dream a lot, but when I do it's usually withdrawal flashback nightmares. 

Basically, I walk around with a hypodermic needle, ready to shoot up, but every time I find a good spot I get disturped and have to find another place, rinse and repeat.

A few years ago these nightmares would lead me to wake up bathed in sweat. Nowadays it's not that bad, but it's still not a pleasent experience.

On one nightmare I was on an airplane and it crashed, but I didn't woke up I actually felt the impact and pain but then recovered and I was already somewhere else.

 

On another nightmare I ran into a guy that was shooting people in the street and he shot me. Again I didn't woke up I felt it, quite painfully. He walked up to me to finish me off while I was on the floor pretending to be dead and then as he was about to shoot me in the head I did manage to wake up.

I had this one awful one where I was stuck in an old car at the junkyard, and then they lifted it up with the crane and put it in the crusher that tears stuff into bits, then packs it into a cube. 

Bonus: Pretty much every nightmare sparked by creepypastas, I think everyone can relate.

I've had the stereotypical 'scary' dreams, but as long as something's happening I actually have fun with it. The ones that make me glad to wake up are the ones where there's only desolation and confusion.

I almost never vividly remember a dream. But many times I have woken up, started going about my business and then at some point gone "Wait, didn't <insert event> already happen?" then taken a few seconds to realize it must have been a dream.

It's a strange experience.

In love with someone that had cancer. Not only did they die, but they spent their last day with me. Remember the dream vividly, even though I had it over 5 years ago.

There is one that's stuck with me. Had it at the height of my spat with anxiety and quite soon after i'd played the library level of metro 2033.

(I'd read the book prior so they scared me even more)

Now that i think about it its sort of similar to the bear in metro

Thankfully i'm an aspiring novelist so i'm fairly sure i'll be able to recount it in vivid detail so someone might shit themselves  

Okay here goes. All of this was in a very vivid and real feeling dream.

I somehow find myself in a deep wood. Its winter and the cold is ever present and attempting to draw the life right out of me. 

Its a moonless night and the only light i have is coming from a small fireplace that's been there since before i started dreaming.

I have a limited supply of deadwood that is drying next to the fire. And it scares me. I have to be really careful since the fire is weak.

But my eyes are not looking at the fire. No. My eyes are fixed on another pair of eyes just beyond the reach of the light of the fire.

A pair of fiendishly intelligent and very red eyes. Sometimes i catch sight of something below them. Teeth like the sharpest knives.

A consistent low growl rises and falls with its every breath and i sometimes see some drool fall from its terrifying jaws. 

If i take my eyes off it i can hear the growling get closer. Sometimes a heavy footfall brings my attention back to it if my attention wanes. 

I get no rest. And it simply stays at the edge. Just close enough to almost be seen. Prowling around the edge of the light. 

Never taking its eyes off me. Those horrible red eyes that almost glow in the faint light. The more the fire dies down the closer it gets.

Every time i break eye contact with it it gets closer. But as long as the fire is there i'm safe. As safe as you can be with a beast like that

lurking. waiting... My supply of wood is dwindling. And i'm getting tired. Soon my eyes start to feel heavy. The cold is creeping in.

Clawing deeper and deeper into me. Chilling me to the bone. I feel like i've been there for hours. The fire is getting weaker.

My supply of wood has run out. Time is short. The beast is closer now. It waits just beyond the closest tree. Growling. Baring its teeth.

And there i sit. Barely awake. Struggling, Fighting. Not wanting to fall asleep because if i do it will come for me. 

The monster inches ever closer as the fire dies and i know it won't be long now. The cold has robbed me of any ability to run.

Out of the corner of my eye i see the last little flame at my feet fade down into the embers. Fear grips me. Every part of me wants to run.

I blink and the beast lunges. Jaws wide open. And as the fangs sink into me i wake up screaming. Clutching my neck.

I was drenched in sweat and shaking. 

 

I've never had a nightmare that horrible before or since. And its pretty amazing how the mind can play such tricks on you. 

Would also be a pretty amazing VR horror game. That i would stay as far away from as humanly possible.

So there. That's my absolute worst nightmare.
