I have my ancient system im trying to update the bios to allow newer cpus.

I downloaded the bios file from gigabyte's website but when i try to open the exe file, it opens 7zip extract menu. I tried uninstalling it, could not find it in control panel, open with cmd, using an uninstaller, installing 7 zip and uninstalling it again. To no avail.

Windows 10 Pro fully updated

You will need to unzip it with 7zip to get at the contence, Its normal, I had the same thing when I downloaded a driver of the gigabyte website for my LGA775 mobo.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Gigabyte sometimes uses a feature in 7zip (and other similar data compression software) where it makes a .zip file as an exe. Basically, in your case, a light version of 7zip is added to the compressed data, so that you don't need to fetch a zip program. I don't get what they do this as often it consumes the same space or more than the data not compressed initially, and since Windows 7, Windows has the ability to extract and compress .zip files.

It sounds like it came in a self-contained 7-zip package. There's nothing wrong with that and it doesn't affect your system in any way.
