Decent laptop for web browsing for around £400 - £500?

Guest

I currently have a decent PC with a 4790k, 16 GB RAM, GTX 980 and a few SSDs.

I'm looking for a cheapish laptop that can be used as a backup or just for relaxing in bed with. I just need it to do basic smooth web browsing, have a fair bit of storage and to be reliable.

I relaly can't ring myself to spend more than £500 as at that point I would just be thinking "I should really just get another PC at this point.." so if it's possible, I'd like to spend no more than £450; but I will spend up to £500 if I have to.

I currently have have a decent Sony Vaio lying in the shed that has 8 GB RAM and an i5 but I bought it back in 2011 and it's currently smashed up (don't ask how). It would probably cost more to have it repaired than it's worth and most likely has a ton of viruses, 14 year old me wasn't too net-smart back then. So I really can't be bothered buying a new HDD, reinstalling Windows and getting the screen and casing replaced.

Any help is appreciated!

I'd order it online. I think it's only like £2 for shipping anyway and you'll have more choice

I know this sounds dumb, but how well do External Hard Drives work on Chromebooks? I've never used the OS before. If they are okay, I could just use external and cloud storage and not worry about upgrading.

Yeah, they work. IDK about how well but external works. Cloud works great though.

People here like to hate on Acer but this one seems pretty nice: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Chromebook-ChromeOS-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B01K5EBCES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501844853&sr=8-1&keywords=chromebook+ips+screen

Also, like others have said it's probably worth taking a look at secondhand thinkpads.
