Davinci Resolve 14b lag.

I'm having trouble with Davinci Resolve 14b (the beta release) on my PC. It lags terribly in the editor, and can't even playback at 24fps, let alone the full 1080p60 I record gameplay in. It works fine on my iMac at work though, and you'll se why that's weird when you look at the specs:

 

My PC:

 

i5 2400, 3.2GHz, 4c/4t

GTX 980 Ti

16GB RAM

 

iMac at work:

 

2.9GHz i5, 4c/4t

GT 650M 512MB

8GB RAM

 

How come it can playback at 1080p60 with no proxy or cache on the iMac, but can barely do 10-15 on my more powerful PC? Both are editing off 7200rpm drives, BTW.

might just be better optimzied for MAC OS, or its not taking your 980 ti into consideration

Maybe. it is taking my 980 Ti into consideration though, as it's manually selected in the settings for CUDA core rendering. Gets to about 50% usage when I'm editing.

Probably. I'll see how it runs on my MacBook Pro (2.9GHz 2c4t i5, 16GB RAM, iGPU, SSD). It'll probs blow my poor (and very, massively, hugely more powerful) PC out of the water. That's another thing people never factor in when buying a Mac. With how well optimized it is, how much would it cost you to buy macOS separately? I'd assume it's more than Windows, since it's a much better OS.

That's only if you could buy it. The last version Apple sold was Snow Leopard (10.6) macOS is a service now that is paid for with the product (and you don't get ads!)

Yeah. That's what I'm saying. People always compare an iMac to a PC and say they can get one with better specs for a much better price, but don't factor in the seamless connectivity over WiFi and Bluetooth, insane optimization, security, and smoothness of macOS, or the amazing display on an iMac, or the stellar speakers, small footprint, tidy setup, etc. 

 

And Davinci is installing on my laptop. Let's see how this goes.

Aaaannnd maybe the beta is just picky. Runs the same on my MacBook Pro as it does on my PC. Should I just *cough*steal*cough* borrow the 2014 iMac 5K with a 4.0GHz 4c/8t i7, 16GB RAM, and Radeon R9 M295X 4GB from the office? But my big boss (one of the co-owners) uses it for checking packaging before it gets printed. So I might get in trouble....

@DrMacintosh Wait! Better idea! I have an older CPU, GPU, and mobo. Maybe Hackintosh? (note to the mods, just discussing the idea, not how to actually make one). Think it would work better with the optimizations in macOS? I'd need another SSD though...
