I'm looking for some sort of music conversion app to do re encodes on my device without going through a PC. Most of what I've found either seems to be limited to mp3 for output, or doesn't accept my 24 bit audio files. Any app available that will freely accept and output whatever audio format I desire (including possibly Apple Lossless)? Thanks.

Any reason you have to do it on the device?  That is going to be much slower and will seriously limit your app selection (as you've found).

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Is your phone compatible with 24-Bit audio? I know iPhones for example can only play back 16-Bit audio. Does your phone even have a AMP capable of driving Hi-Fi headphones?

yeah.  That said, I don't think the intention is to play those files though, just convert them to something else.

Music conversion is an easy task for something like an Intel Atom. I see no reason why a Snapdragon 821 shouldn't beat that out by a considerable margin,. The problem, no one seems to have bothered to have made or ported such an app. I lack home internet, so converting on the device for playback, and simply moving the originals to PC later would be much faster.

My old LG G2 had no complaints, though the player in this ROM I'm using on my new phone doesn't seem to agree. My headphones aren't exactly hi fi capable anyway, so converting the audio to standard flac or M4a would be the best bet.

Possible but that just adds a lot or difficulty if he was trying to move them to another device.

If you headphones aren't high quality using FLAC won't help at all. M4a is a much more reasonable file type.

Well, I didn't say they were crappy, though I'm not certain where Sennheiser Momentum headphones fit in the hierarchy.

Well, to try to address the problem, I still don't know of any apps, but what I would do in your case is plug it into the pc with usb and then use an app on the pc to convert, in place.  It would save you (manually) copying them over and back, even though that would still happen in the background.

Well they aren't terrible, but they don't touch my M50Xs and those can be smoked by other headphones (that cost significantly more)

Honestly, this isn't even a big deal. I could probably just use my Bay Trail tablet if I really wanted to and was away from my desktop. I was just wondering whether no one has developed such an app in all the years Android was alive, or if I was just failing at search.

I bought these on sale for $80 at a Fry's, and use them in bed for music. Far and away better than anything I have used up to that point, (though to be fair, I don't know any audiophiles). Mids actually exist for one. :P

Just did a quick search and came up with this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.AndroidA.MediaConverter&hl=en

seems decent but no idea really.  I would just move them, convert on pc and move back, but if you want to convert in place, surely there is one that works...

I did give that app a try, though it didn't work for these audio files.

If we can solve this by finding a player that works rather than having to convert them, have you tried rocket player?  I used it when I was on android and found it to be very good.

  • 1 month later...

Stock music player can't even play 48khz sample rate. I think this damn music player is pickier than iTunes (which won't import flac BTW).

Kind of a necro, but a mini rant too.
