There are rumors that it is a completely new socket... so no... no 17x or 27x boards...

This will be in line with the last upgrades as well...

the 6x and 7x chipset for 2xxx and 3xxx, then the 8x and 9x chipset for 4xxx, the 1xx and 2xx for 6xxx and 7xxx series...

Main System:

Anghammarad : Asrock Taichi x570, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @4900 MHz. 32 GB DDR4 3600, some NVME SSDs, Gainward Phoenix RTX 3070TI

System 2 "Igluna" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

System 3 "Inskah" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

On the Road: Acer Aspire 5 Model A515-51G-54FD, Intel Core i5 7200U, 8 GB DDR4 Ram, 120 GB SSD, 1 TB SSD, Intel CPU GFX and Nvidia MX 150, Full HD IPS display

(Abit Fatal1ty FP9 IN SLI, C2Duo E8400, 6 GB Ram DDR2 800, far too less diskspace, Gainward Phantom 560 GTX broken need fixing)

My beef with this is that after CFL Intel goes down to 10 nm, so that requires a new socket, or that's what my limited knowledge is saying. If that's the case, CFL will require separate mobos for just 1 generation of CPUs. I know tick tock is no more, but still, people have to upgrade 200-300 $ motherboards so that they can have the next gen CPU?

That's greedy...even for Intel...

MSI Z270 SLI PLUS - 7600k 5.1GHz - Corsair LPX 3000MHz - G1 Gaming GTX1060 - Arctic LiquidFreezer 240 - Crucial m.2 275GB - WD 1TB - EVGA B3 750W - Segotep Lux - LG 34UC79 Curved - Redragon Yama - Redragon Hydra - Gigabyte WIFI

Sound is provided by a Pioneer Amp from the 70s - if it's not broken, don't fix it.

People who spend hundreds of dollars on motherboards certainly won't damage their budget by buying a new motherboard every 2-3 years.

Anyone invest in a desktop put in his/her mind that this machine is  modular but intel force the community to consider laptops because of changing sockets and chips at the expense of performance. Every change made will cost an owner of a pc about 60 to 70% of the total desktop cost and even in the future coffee lake even though the socket has the same parameters still it may be inoperable in last two gen mobos.

I was thinking about doing my first (budget) build with an i5 7500 and a B250 motherboard, but now I'm waiting for Coffee Lake before I buy parts.

When the Coffee Lake i5 8500 comes about, do you think it will work with a B250, or no?

The reason I ask is I found a B250 that I really like (MSI B250M Mortar Arctic), and I would like to still use it with Coffee Lake if possible.

I keep seeing people talk about Z170 and Z270 motherboards' possible compatibility with Coffee Lake, but I haven't heard anything about the B's or H's.  (Sorry if the answer is obvious, I'm still new to building).
