Best settings in Audacity for converting tapes & vinyl to a lossless format

Dabombinable

I'm having some problems getting the sound quality to be at the very least as good as the shitty speakers built into the converter, so would be be recommended settings for getting the best conversion quality so I can down convert to any necessary file type.

This is a really difficult question to answer. The problem is more than likely not Audacity.

It's more than likely that the problem lies your units ADC.

From the way you phrase it, it sounds like you're using an all-in-one unit, which means that it might just not be worth using to to do proper digitizing of your media.

I guess you could try using the ADC in your computer via the line-in, but again, it might not be worth the hassle.

Speaking of audacity. Can anyone give me the link to the official audacity download because there are 2 different websites with audacity in the name when I search for it on google.

What's the turntable/tape deck you're using?

I don't actually know, the closest model that I can find looks only vaguely like it (same tape deck, everything else is different). All I know is that the manual recommends using the Windows driver, and copies the how-to guide from audacities website.

I might try using analogue out. Because playing records with a $5 produces better sound than the digital recording and the unit's speakers. And its just a thin piece of plastic. Switching from a front USB port to a rear one helped as well.

I'll have to agree with @Volbet as it's probably one of those all-in-one type wooden boxy players from the likes of Crosley, Jensen, Electrohome, Sylvania, and countless other brands sourced directly from the Shenzhen Skywin OEM factory.  They are truly infamous for its very poor build quality that utilizes cheap plastic parts, which will also put extraneous wear and tear on your records.

Its actually just plain black plastic and a slightly taller version of this (looking at it closely its a shittier version of shit-particle board base for example):
I used the manual from the MBeat USB-TR08 (http://www.mbeat.com.au/product/mbeat-usb-turntable-and-cassette-to-digital-recorder-2-in-1-2/)

But this is the one that I have, https://www.latestbuy.com.au/trendtastic-usb-turntable-cassette-converter/

I might be better off just hooking up my Mum's record player (Sony, outlasted at least 2 sound systems) and as for the tapes, I'll see if I can get the current "stereo" to record to CD or find the large audio jack adapter so I can also record them via line in.

Yep, that is undoubtedly a Shenzhen Skywin design, and not even a good one at that.

There will more than likely be an impedance mismatch between the ceramic cartridge and whatever circuitry they're using for the ADC.

This will in turn lead to a really harsh sound output. This could very well be coupled with the ADC outputting a digital stream with a very low sample rate.

Using the Sony turntable will more than likely yield a better result.

Don't forget Anders Nicholson. They're probably the worst all-in-one systems out there (which says a lot).

Ok, just checked both out and I'll just ignore the AIO unit and simple use the line out on the sound system and analogue out on the record player (Sony PSJ20 from 2000)
