Choosing CPUs

Would you guys rather get a Ryzen 3 1300X or a i5 7500 locked? Is there anything better in the Ryzen lineup that matches the i5 7500 in price, but beats it in performance? Thanks!

I’d choose the Ryzen 3, since I like Ryzen, and have a straight upgrade to an R5 1600. Or just get the 1600 and call it a day.

But honestly, I'd rather get the 1300X.  
Is it as powerful as the 7500?  No.  I can overclock it though, even on budget motherboards.  I can also upgrade at any time to a higher end Ryzen CPU.  IIRC also, isn't AMD supporting the AM4 socket till ike 2019 or 2020.

Ryzen is better for every thing now unless you want dirty cheap office pc then you can still go g4560 on a h110m because of igpu.

 

Outside that case you're better off with ryzen, get a b350 and the ryzen 3 1200, OC it and done:

I think I'm probably gonna go with the 1500x. The person I'm building this for usually just plays Overwatch. I will be pairing it with a GTX 1060 6GB.

Better than the 1500X because the 1600 is 6 core and 1500X is only 4. 1600 is a MUST over the 1500X for streaming.

Why? Why would you spend $110 with the intentions of upgrading to a $200 CPU? Everyone just because the R3 is new doesn't mean you need to recommend it for everything

Because a lot of the times people are asking for the best budget CPU and it's a solid performer with an even more solid upgrade path down the road.

I recommended it before I knew he was streaming.  Now that he's streaming, the 1600 is the way to go.

Only thing is his original question was what CPU is the AMD equivalent of the 7500 which is the 1600, not the R3 stuff.

He didn't mention he was streaming at first.

He said his friend only played Overwatch before he told us he also streamed.

For just Overwatch, you don't need a 1500X or a 7500.

Go with the cheapest B350 motherboard, that's what I'd do.

This PC isn't for me, I'm building it for someone else and I have the intention of overclocking it before I send it off. I'm looking into the X370 lineup and was wondering if ASRock would be a good brand to go with. I'm leaning towards the ASRock X370 Killer SLI.
