Yes it will provide an alrightish gaming experience old titles until 2013, it'll be good enough for above 60fps on e-sports too, playing on low quality though obviously

It's what my old Core2Duo E7500 @3,4ghz along side a GTX 560ti could do back in the day, it played stuff up to 2012~2013 fine at 1680x1050p60fps and cs:go and league of legends were a smooth 60fps+

A 1050ti is better and the 5400k actually bottlenecks it a bit less than the Core2Duo would so by simple logic...

I'd say he should be able to play titles like Dark Souls 3 and Doom at 1080p as long as he keeps expectation in check

If you play lighter games or at low res/low graphics settings you could upgrade to an a10-78xx K and get the 1050 ti to squeeze what's left of your computer, otherwise start from scratch.

How does that make any sense? Lowering graphical settings when there is an obvious cpu bottleneck? The only thing you can do to avoid low framerates with a cpu bottleneck is reducing physics-render distance and others depending on the games you play.
