So I'm planning to order a full mid-range system very soon and before I pull my expensive trigger I wanna ask you what are the risks with RAM compatibility and how to fix them.

This is my current planned build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/DD7LRG

As you can see I'm using a Gigabyte - GA-AB350-GAMING 3 board and I'm gonna pair it with Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory (red variant) which currently isn't inside the memory support list of that MotherB.

So what kind of issues can I expect with that ram and is it worth the risk since I'm going for at least 3000Mhz. If you have any better solutions like other ram sticks that have been tested with this board and run at least 2933Mhz then please don't hesitate to reply! ^^

Best regards  - Alex.

What list are you talking about if the slot is ddr4 the ram is ddr4 no problems and you wont find any clearance problems because those sticks are low profile and your using the stock cooler

SPECS:

i5 6400

Asus H110i-PLUS

Kingston 8GB RAM

HyperX 3K 120GB SSD

Western Digital Black 320GB HDD

Corsair RM550x

You can expect it to not be supported by the motherboard :)

ummm what?

if its not on the QVL list then whatever you buy is not gaurenteed to work at x speed in x configuration

Any other recommendations then?

honestly it should be fine, worst case is that it runs at 2133 not a smidge faster

the list can be found here: http://www.gigabyte.us/Motherboard/GA-AB350-Gaming-3-rev-10#support-doc I personally downloaded the EU one.

The issue is the highest frequency ram is run at 2666Mhz (from the list) and I'm looking for 2933 and above like I previously mentioned, also the Motherboard DOES support up to 3200Mhz but only when the ram is OC'ed.

S Support List

I picked up a variant of that RAM that is on Gigabyte's QVL. Considerable incompability issues.

If you have any choice in the matter on B350 boards, go with AsRock or ASUS. MSI's RAM compatibility is iffy, and Gigabyte's boards have crappy VRMs, are cheaply built and have, in my own very personal experience, shit compatibility with RAM that's on their own damn QVL, let alone RAM that isn't.

Pick up either an AsRock or ASUS board, grab yourself a RAM kit off of their QVL (or something clocked at 3200MHz with CL14, or anything faster than 3200MHz, to guarantee B-Die) and go for the moon. My 3466MHz Corsair RAM runs smooth as butter at 3200MHz on an ASUS B350-F Strix board, and it's not even on the QVL.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

A decent reply lad, I will invest some time reading about this board. Mind asking you the exact model of the ram that you currently have?

The RAM I bought for the Gigabyte board was returned, no idea what the SKU was. The RAM I have now is a completely random Corsair kit that I picked up at Best Buy. Unusual SKU that might have been a Euro-only release or, more likely, was a "special" SKU just for BBY so they wouldn't have to price match it. It's 3466MHz, CL16. Anything above CL3200 is more or less guaranteed to be B-Die, as, IIRC, nothing else Samsung is clocked that high, and certainly nothing Hynix is.

Quite the unusual SKU indeed, to the point where even Google doesn't know about it. This gives me more confidence about the board that you use and I will definetely consider spending the extra buck if the ram support is indeed better on the Asus STRIX.

Samsung B-Die pretty much covers you--except, seemingly, on the AB350 Gaming-3.

No if you have 3200mhz ram and motherboard supports 2666mhz your motherboard downclocks the ram to 2666mhz

SPECS:

Kingston 8GB RAM

I'm surprised no one mentioned this but it seems that the new base BIOS code names ASEGA has released version 1.0.0.6 which solves the problem of trying to find a memory that matches and can easily run at 3200Mhz (which is currently the recommended frequency by AMD itself).

Thanks again for all the help and yes I will be switching my Motherboard to Strix B350, thanks again for convincing me aisle9.
