Will 1080p gaming be replaced by 1440p in the future?

Mlordy

Will 1080p gaming be replaced by 1440p in the future as the "bare minimum" ?

What do you guys think & what resolution do you prefer gaming at?

PS: I prefer 1080p.

4k will replace 1080p eventually, 1440p has no content really outside of gaming.

Not really.  Most people have 1080p 60hz monitors.

You are 100% right. I said 75 hz because most 1080p 60 hz monitors can be set to 75 hz without any problems.

Yes. It'll take a while, but eventually we'll get there.

I enjoy gaming at 1440p, though am perfectly fine with 1080p as well.

Yes of course? Just like 1080p replaced 720p, which replaced 480p, etc... At some point we will have 16K gaming, 32K gaming, 64K gaming, etc..

I find anything above 4k useless because I don't think the human eye can notice any difference between 4k & 32k, unless you're using a display that is bigger than 70 inches. So I don't think we'll be getting resolutions above 16k with gaming monitors in a few decades.

Man, if only OP asked specifically about gaming.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

Lol I wish. Most 60hz can technically do 75hz at a lower resolution, but very few will actually overclock to 75hz at 1080p.

1080p@60 is fine for most people. and most likely wont be "replaced" it might just not become the most common. Most benchmarks you see on reviews are based on 1080p resolution.

1440p isnt used for anything but monitors, and nothing outside of games really uses it. 4k will be the standard in probably 10 years or so

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

Everything will change in future, so sit down and enjoy changes ) hopefully my health situation would change as well and i won't need such sites https://rxcoupons.org as thsi is more important. but the fact that 1440p would change the 1080p that's for sure. that's just a matter of time.

Well, some video sources do have 1440p. And computers aren't the only thing that are at 1440, either. While I guess 1440 TVs aren't easy to find, some smartphones (like my Samsung Galaxy Note 5) have a 1440p display. Youtube also supports 1440p as well as 4K. Also, 1440p is easier to run than 4K - though the way the hardware is advancing, that difference may become negligible, and in some minds it already it.

So I think what will happen is that 4K will become the standard, and some people will continue to use 1440 in the same way that some people still use 1280x960, 1280x1024, or even 1600x900 today. Perhaps many laptops too will use 1440p, as the difference may still be meaningful on "mobile" hardware, similarly to how many laptops today are still below standard at 1366x768 instead of 1080p. But for me, 1440 will be the next step, rather than 1080p144.

Outside of gaming, 1440p is rarely used.  I doubt that it will replace 1080p before 4k does.

My point still stands, 1440p isn't going to replace everyones 1080p monitors. There isn't any reasons outside of gaming to drive people to 1440p.  Even if he's specifically talking about gaming, people do more with their PC's than game, and considering many 4k monitors are the same price as 1440p, people will gravitate towards that because of the extra content.
