P400S is really bad for water cooling

Hey guys, My cousin asked me to build him a pc and he gave me a few requirements:

  • has to be intel
  • has to use this ugly ass case
  • wants custom water cooling
  • a budget of $2000-$2500
  • bonus for rgb

Alright, so do you all have any comments for this build? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/p9jCXH

Custom water cooling? Like full out custom water cooling, or just aios? Because this list isn't "custom water cooling."

EDIT: Derp me dumb didn't notice the ek a240g. But is it really worth doing? Why not just get an aio instead?

For that kind of budget you should have a 1080.  There are cheaper mobos with similar features, unless you are going for a white themed build.

is a 1080 too overkill for 1440p at 60 fps?

People tend to spend a lot of extra money on these "Gaming" motherboards when a basic green board functions just fine and costs less.

You also have an i7, the definition of overkill for gaming.  Even with a 1080 not all games with get 60fps at 1440, most for sure, but the decision should depend on what type of games your cousin plays.

I was going to give a revised parts list but... Pcpartpicker just went down, it seems :/

-don't get a 960 evo, NVMe doesn't improve boot times or app launch times

-I don't see the need for the custom water cooling kit, imo a kraken x52 or something would look better and perform almost as well

-why an mx master for a gaming build? Something like a G502 would be better

-if it's for gaming I recommend going for a Dell S2417DG for the monitor instead

-1070 seems awfully underpowered for this build, I think a 1080 ti is doable
