Questions about Crossfire Compatibility

okay that helps a lot, but to clarify, if I get a 2GB card, I can still benefit from the 2GB, or am I limited to 1?

you  are limited to 1gb

I recently went to a goodwill and got an AMD Radeon HD 7770 1GB from Asus for 20$! I put it in my secondary PC, and it performs pretty well for a card it's age, but I was wondering if I could pick up another card and crossfire them. I got the 7770 complete in box, so I have a crossfire cable, but I was wondering if I could get a 2GB card to use as the main card, and use the 1GB as the secondary, and still have the 2GB of VRAM to use for games. My secondary rig has an AMD FX 8350, and 8gb of random mis-matched ram. I know the mobo (Asus M5A97 R2.0) supports crossfire, so I just want to know about VRAM.

This used to be a signature with a bunch of specs, but they're outaded.

i think that does not work. AFAIK the memory gets mirrored between both cards pretty much comparable to two harddrives in a RAID 1

- if you put a 1tb drive and a 2tb drive in a RAID 1 you can't really benefit from the extra TB on the larger drive either

Alright, thanks

Crossfire and SLI will never stack memory because both cards needs to fill the vram equally to have access to the same stuff also equally so they can talk to each other and know what each other's talking about.

Vram only ads in dx12. Pretty sure I read somewhere anyways that dx12 the memory stacks vut everything else you are limited to whatever card has the lowest vram so if you are using 1gb of vram or more u might be best to just use the 2gb card as you will no be running out of vram.
