My computer crashed a few days ago. It went to a "scanning and repairing" hdd D:. The check seemed to get stuck at 8 percent, and after a few tries, I bypassed this by choosing speedy boot mode in the bios. The next day I had the same crash, this time I did some research, and if found that scanning and repairing hdd takes a VERY long time, so I decided to let it run. ~40 hours later, today,  the scan finishes. Windows loads without any type or report of errors, so I go about my business... and then I crash again, and then one more time after another reboot.

I have done virus scans and started watching my temps. The scans turned up empty, and I have yet to come up with any temp issues, with either my cpu (fx 6350) or HDD (some shitty Hitachi 2tb) although I have never been watching them when it crashes. Does anyone have any insight into what my problem could be? A few other notes, This is the hottest it has been since I got my computer, this is why I suspect it COULD be a cooling issue, coupled with the fact that the first of my two crashes today happened while I left my case fans off on accident. I have also only crashed since I installed a new 250 gb hdd to store extra stuff (I just had it laying around so I decided to put it in), and while playing or launching PUBG (but that's what I've spent most of my time on my computer doing so that's, not an unlikely coincidence.

Any help would be appreciated!

I will asume a few things, sooo...

I will asume your C drive would be your 2tb shitachi drive. Since you told us you added the 250 gb drive afterwards. This would mean your newly installed 250 gb drive, would turn out as the D drive. Windows detected some stuff happening at your D drive. (250 gb)

You also said that you had the 250 gb laying around, which makes me think it's an older used drive. Might be close to death as is.

So you've added another old drive to your pc, which was possibly already worn out. Then the heat cycles start again, which aren't that good for HDD's. Then you forgot your side panel fans, which most likely would cool them drives a bit. (at least a bit) So that makes it even worse. (heat cycle)

Finaly, you now have 2 HDD's in your case, instead of 1 previously. Some of my HDD's can get really warm, if I don't cool them. So I think your issue is indeed with an failing added 250 gb drive. Get your stuff off it, disconnect it and check if your system still crashes. (there shouldn't be any D drive to "check for errors", so reboots should at least be faster after an crash)

Please vote best answer if my answer is correct + the best.

I thought I had solved it with this advice, now I don't get the scanning after a crash, but i'm still crashing. Is there any way to know if a crash is caused by a thermal issue? A way to record and save temps through a crash? Any other suggestions for a fix?
