blowing some cash

carolkarine

Okay guys, I just sold some bitcoins and made exactly 700 dollars. I want to hold onto as much of this as possible while accomplishing the following goal:

I hope to adequately cool a 290.

what I have in my system now:

gigabyte 7870 (@1260 mhz)

3570K (stock)

H60

Asus mitx board (not the P8-Z77I-Deluxe, although that is the next upgrade. but because it's so unnecessary, I won't be doing that this time around.)

2 WD 3.5in HDDs

Corsair CX600w

now, my two different plans for cooling this monstrosity.

Arctic Accelero x3

pros:

  • cheaper than other option
  • cools well

cons:

  • permanent application of heatsinks.

NZXT G10 and X40

pros:

  • cools very well
  • not permanent
  • can be moved to another card later
  • can swap out AIO cooler

cons:

  • more expensive
  • may have trouble cooling vram (the power delivery is directly underneath the fan, so it should be fine, but the vram is not. to be fair, I don't plan on up-clocking the memory, and I don't see it getting terribly hot anyways)

So guys, which one? please note I will be getting the g10 and x40 (if I do) on the black friday sales, so they're only (at most) 20 dollars more. (together they are 100 USD. deadpool over on the OC.net confirmed the sales)

I sold them about 5 days ago. money just came in because coinbase has a standard 4 day waiting period for people who haven't provided their SSN to avoid money laundering. when I sold .9 BTC it was around 790 or so.

nzxt seems to be the clear winner, but I'll leave the poll up for a bit longer so more people can vote.

You still made out pretty good. I'm hoping i can make out half decently from the LTC mining.
