Flash fill/AutoFill trouble in Excel 2016

I am working on a spreadsheet, I have a formula to reference another sheet within that same workbook.  The formula only retrieves that value and it's there if the value changes, everything else will change too.  When ever I try to copy the cell to other cells, it is pasting it for the corresponding cell in the other sheet.  For example, the formula is retrieving the value in cell L2 in sheet1.  Whenever I copy that cell in sheet2 with the formula to the next cell down, it references cell L3.  I have neither no idea what the problem is nor how to fix it.

you need to make L2 into an absolute value. Try using $L$2 instead of  L2

Thanks, that fixed the problem.  I should've known as I am a certified specialist in excel, but I haven't used it in years so I am a bit rusty.
