 Mine's fine (and I got it for $300! Yippee!), but then it's a lot newer. And if you're on iOS 9, you can jailbreak it and mess with stuff for fun.

Yup! I still miss that... I'm on iOS 10, and the click to unlock, then it unlocks it, then I have to click to open it thing gets to me.

You're confusing the shock rating.  1500 G shock rating is only the ability to survive 1500 times it's stopping distance.  That is, if it's stopping distance is 1mm (Like, a non-carpeted floor) it can only survive a 1.5m fall.  1500 G shock rating is actually pretty trivial.  Physics is fun, isn't it?

 

This would be sustained G-force which is something much more stressful and something SSDs aren't rated for before they operate in 1G environments.

well, this topic made a turn that i had not anticipated. helicopter blades! but if you want to really cool an ssd, a bucket of liquid nitrogen would be a better way to go.

Yeah, no.  The shock rating is for a single impact.  You'll also note that, if you repeatedly drop an SSD from 1.5m onto the floor, it will eventually break.  I get that you want to believe that it means 'Indestructible if dropped from 1.5m or less' but it doesn't mean that and any attempt at rewording your poor comprehension isn't going to change that either.

If an object survives a certain limit without any damage, it will survive it a second time.

There is no reason why it would fail the second time unless it was damaged in the first.

If it was damaged in the first, it would not be rated for that amount, it would be rated for less.

We're talking about a lot more times than 'a second time here' and the continued stress of being strapped to a helicopter blade continuously would progressively bring it to structural /internal failure.  That said, PC parts aren't BUILT for high G environments.  They aren't rated for it at all because it's not supposed to happen.  But be assured, that continued stresses need special design considerations.

i have to agree with Ashley Ashes on this one. helicopter blades would withstand huge g loads in many different directions, sometimes at once. there is not only rotational, but acceleration and deceleration, plus vertical(+ and -) g loads from higher and lower pressure air density pockets that the helicopter would move thru on an erratic  basis. acceleration loads would be relatively gradual, but deceleration loads could be rapid and intense (think of a single blade impacting a goose or swan) and the possibility of it hitting much more substantial always exists. helicopter blades have to withstand huge fluctuations in loads in every direction. and they can only do that for a certain amount of time before they must be replaced. 

 

now, NO ONE IS EVER GOING TO MOUNT AN SSD TO A HELICOPTER BLADE ! ! ! ! !  

 

so can we just drop that part of it please! LOL
