Is this true?

Ok so people say all the time if something has a bigger screen (ex s8 vs s8 plus) it will use more battery, but why is this? Technically shouldn't the s8 and s8 plus use the same since they both used oled (each pixel has its own light) and have the same resolution and everything else. Why does it use more power?

But what has a larger area to power? Oled doesn't have a backlight, and they are the same res...

It would only be possible to have a larger display use the same power as a smaller display if the larger display wasn't as bright.

Like if it was 50% larger , it would have to be a third darker

Wait is it cause because the pixels are bigger there is more area on each pixel that has to light up?

effectively yeah , larger bulbs so to speak.

More light = more power used. Otherwise, it would defy the laws of physics. (using the same tech obviously)

Think about it like this. If the resolution, OLED and other features are held constant but the screen is bigger, it means something changed. 

 

The pixels got bigger.

 

Each pixel acts like a tiny LED (this is grossly oversimplifying it) and bigger LEDs consume more power. That is why a bigger screen will use more electricity. 

Ohhhhh ok, for some reason I was forgetting that the pixels get bigger...
