I'm sleeving my PSU cables and instead of disconnecting and reconnecting the cables I received with the PSU I was thinking of creating my own custom length ones.

Can I just use the same 18 AWG wire for all of the PSU cables, such as the 24-pin, 8-pin, PCI-E, etc?

Do I have to follow the pinout of my existing cables, e.g. if there's a blank pin I leave mine blank (any double cables I'll be soldering), or can I make the cables the same way with extensions (which is just by putting a cable in every hole of the connector)?

And if the answer to the previous question was no to the latter will I need to check each cable has the correct voltage going to each pin, and if so, how will I do this, is there a device?

CPU: Intel Core i7 5820K 3.30GHz

MOBO: MSI Gaming Pro Carbon X99A

RAM: 16GB Kingston HyperX Fury (4x4GB) / (in transition to) 32GB Kingston HyperX Fury (4x8GB)

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 SC

PSU: Corsair AX1200i

For full replacement cables you must follow the proper pinout for that PSU. I usually suggest to purchase sets such as ones from Cablemods due to the time it takes to complete a set unless your planning on doing a lot in the future.

Making a full set of custom cables is not easy or cheap, it will take you a very long time and probably look bad.

I would recommend buying a set of already made cables from cablemod or some other place.

To answer your questions

1) 18awg for everything is good

2) it needs to be exactly the same as the cables currently are. Not like extensions.

3) There are PSU testers like this: Image result for psu tester

Thanks for the help. And despite everyone's warning about time length and what it could look like, I do have a lot of time on my hands right now and it's not something I want to do urgently, if it takes me six months, then it will take me six months.

I have one more question. I've been looking around forums, when trying to find the best place to purchase things and just looking for answers for my questions. One thing I've come across is that the PSU connectors are not all the same. I have a Corsair AX1200i, the one I purchased is this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008QB8URK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 On my, unsuccessful, search I discovered that some of Corsairs PSUs have universal connectors. Does anyone know if mine is universal, or will I have to use a specific type, and if so where can I get them from? I do not want to take them from the original cables because I always want to have that set and for warranty reasons as well.

For supplies places such as mainframe customs and ModOne are good options.
