I've had my current computer for about 6 years now, and I've been meaning to build a new one for a while now but I just haven't found the motivation to spend the money. The specs are as follows:

  • AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
  • Stock AMD CPU Cooler
  • Asus M4A88TD-M/USB3
  • 1x generic 2GB stick of ram
  • 1x Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600
  • HIS Radeon HD 7790 2GB
  • Coolermaster RS-650 PCAR-E3 650w
  • Generic NCIX mid tower case
  • 1x Seagate 750GB 7200RPM Hard drive (got this with my acer computer I got 7 years ago)
  • 1x Seagate 500GB 7200RPM Hard drive
  • 1x Acer X233h 1080p Monitor
  • 1x LG 1050p Monitor
  • Func KB-460
  • Logitech G502
  • Logitech X540 Speakers
  • Kingston HyperX 2
  • Sennheiser HD 598 SRs

Some things to note:

  • Took out the CPU cooler to clean one time and the stock thermal paste pulled the CPU with it so I bent some pins. Somehow managed to put it back together and it's been working. Havn't touched it since
  • CPU is at 75%+ usage more often than not for some reason even when just browsing the web and daily usage of the computer
  • 2 ram slots are broken
  • Hard drives rattle
  • I/O ports are unstable (keyboard sometime disconnects, ethernet port is iffy)
  • Sometimes

Games I play:

  • League of Legends
  • CSGO
  • Overwatch

Things I do:

  • Photo/Video Editing w/ Adobe Premier, Lightroom, Photoshop (very light, I'm not a professional)
  • Office 365
  • Stream my games
  • Constantly have things open on both monitors

Things I know I don't need to upgrade or don't want to:

  • My GPU is fine for all the games I play

The Point of This Thread:

I don't really want to spring on an entire new system right now, so I was wondering what I should upgrade first? I was thinking an SSD. Thoughts? Should I upgrade my CPU and mobo?

SSD is preferred, everything else is fine really, what do you feel is slow about your system?

I'm not a very techy person so I can't tell you exactly what the problem is. Whenever I use it sometimes it's just slow and stops responding when I try doing more than one thing at once. Sometimes I lose frames when I stream and even alt tabbing out of games. When it cooperates it's flawless but when there's a problem it's quite frustrating.

An SSD is a very good option then, it can make the desktop experience very smooth, but if the problem is in games then you really should change your GPU?

CPU, Mobo, and RAM would be a reasonable upgrade, but it depends on how much money you have really. I'd probably wait until the end of the month and look at a Ryzen 3 upgrade if possible. Otherwise, add an SSD. You should really add an SSD anyway, but a Ryzen 3 upgrade would definitely do you good so if you can afford that, go for that, and then you can add an SSD.
