Looking to Upgrade

Hi all,

I am looking to upgrade my machine or even go brand new.

Below is my current spec:

https://i.gyazo.com/0c2aa34a6701817017bcc1388c636a05.png

My budget is around £1000. I am a Sim Racer and gamer in general so that will be my main operation.

I do small graphics and video work but primarily gaming and Sim Racing.

I have never Overclocked before, there do not know if that would be an option?

What would people recommend for this type of setup?

Many thanks

Do you need/want a new case?

How about storage? Need any more?

The above should be a good launching platform. You can swap the 1700X for a 1700 probably and get pretty much the same performance and overclock.

A GTX 1070 for a 60Hz 1080p monitor? A tad overkill don't you think?

My monitor is 144Hz. I've actually just upped cause I never noticed it was on 60Hz :/

Not much need for a new CPU tbh. 2500k is still solid, and you have a decent mobo/RAM anyway so you could stick with that for now. I'd recommend overclocking the 2500k though. If you really want a CPU upgrade, I'd probably grab a Ryzen 5 with 2x8GB 3000/3200MHz RAM and a nice B350 motherboard. Only other thing I'd bother doing is maybe adding another SSD and/or HDD.

You'll for sure want a GPU upgrade though. A GTX 1070 would be a good shout, if they weren't all out of stock and at ridiculous prices anyway. So, a GTX 1080 seems a good way to go;

Even these are starting to rise in price and disappear though, so other than this, your best option is to find a nice used GTX 980Ti or R9 Fury (X).

if you are going to get a ryzen chip you may want to get faster memory and if you needed to save some the stock cooler with the 1700 and x are very capable even for light overclocking

I prefer EVGA personally but most GPU makers are pretty good these days, not really sure of a big name brand (aside maybe Asus) to avoid.

For a CPU cooler you can either go AIO like the H100i v2 or a nice air cooler like the beQuiet Dark Rock Pro 3.

GTX 1070 is pretty equal to the 980Ti so you can go either way there, 1070 does consume less power but performs about the same. If you really want to go all in, go with the 1080 but that's up to you :)
