How do you guys plan a mod? Do you just sketch it out? Just write it down? What programs do you use? What is your process of planning out then executing the mod?

Pretty much addicted to Gaming and Youtube. I think I have a problem.

Really depends what game you are modding and which types of mods you are making, it could be graphics/ game patch.

Forum section is case mods so I assume he means a physical mod to his case.

On topic: I'd be surprised if anyone went as far as 3D modelling their mod unless it was like a huge overhaul. Personally like anything measure twice, cut once. You can't un-cut or un-drill something so double check before making a single cut. It feels tedious but its better than misplaced hole or unnecessary cut.

I use a very basic modeling software called sketch up for case mods, love CAD but it can be a bit time consuming and with a program like sketch up you can crap out a design in like 30 seconds if you are reasonably experienced

The 2-d software that they have is great, super easy to use and then you print it out and tape it to your case using painters tape.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

I have heard of a ton of different recommendations for software to use, but I do think Sketchup is one of the easier ones to use.

Unless you have the time & inclination to spend about 100-200 hours learning them advanced CAD programs (stuff from autodesk etc.) they will frustrate you to no end.  Stick with Sketchup :)

The furthest into planning for mods and my other creative projects (cosplay, lifehacking and to a lesser degree cooking), is occasionally making paper templates. But for most things I prefer to just do it and see what comes up. As such I frequently take things apart realize the mod I intended won't work and then put it back together if I didn't ruin things too badly. (Granted I also tend not to do over the top mods to my computer.) Every one has their own creative style if you feel the need to plan, plan otherwise just go for it.
