Oculus vs vive

Me and my brother are looking at VR, and we went to a Microsoft store to test then to see which one was better and also to test them. But then the person running the Demos said that the vive and oculus are pretty much the same and all you need to do to get the same experience as the vive is to get a third sensor and the revive mod. I was wondering if this is true because If it is it would be much cheaper to get the oculus. Also he is the only one who has said that so I'd like a few opinions.

From what I've heard he's right. The oculus controllers should be a tad better.

They are very nearly the same.  Oculus has very nice built in headphones, Vive has front facing camera.  Oculus has their own software platform, Vive has Steam VR.  Oculus has slightly better controllers, Vive is working on something even better but no word on a launch date.

I think the Vive is better because there are way more games supported for it on Steam

But what about room scale? I have about 6' of open space that I can use. Will it work with the oculus with 3 cameras?
