ROG STRIX-GTX1070-8G-GAMING for my older motherboard

STOGGYs

8Hey everybody,

Thinking about upgrading my now dated gaming desktop computer with a "Asus GTX 1070 (ROG STRIX-GTX1070)" and was wondering if there's any downsides or if it will even work with my older moderboard.

Current motherboard: ASUS P8P67 PRO B3

Anything i should look out for?

I will eventually upgrade both my motherboard and processor but as of now I can only afford a good graphics card.

you'll be fine compatibility wise
that i5 will bottleneck quite hard in some games tho,so if you're planning on upgrading more this should be the next on the list

Thank for you reply McHox!

Yeah the plan is to upgrade further.

But for any noticeable performance difference i feel like i have to upgrade to a newer generation processor, and it feels like they all have different sockets.

In other words, wont i have to upgrade motherboard at the same time then?

If you are going to upgrade your processor to anything newer, yes you will need to upgrade the mobo also.

Do you know what path you might take? ie Amd or Intel?

I have no idea. I've been happy with my i5 and i'm also currently running a i7-5700HQ in my laptop and they have both worked great.

Except for the overheating with my laptop cpu.
