1080ti SLI @ 1440

Hello all,

I have been trying to do some research on the 1080ti and if it would be worth running duo sli for non 4k gaming. I run a g sync monitor 144hz @ 1440. Sadly all of the benchmarks i can find (places i know to true) have only tested 4k. I was hoping someone here had some insight on this rough set-up.

CPU- Intel i9 9900k | Motherboard- ASUS ROG Strix Z390-I | RAM- Kingston HyperX 32GB | GPU- Nvidia 2080ti Reference

Case- NCase v6.1 | Storage- x2 2tb WD m.2  | PSU- Corsair SF750 | Cooling- NZXT Kraken X52

i mean if it crushes 4k benchmarks, you can be sure that 1440p is absolutely no problem, even with 144Hz

You would need a 200hz+ monitor to use dual 1080ti SLI

Im mostly on discord now and you can find me on my profile

does it crush as hard is my concern. For example i know the 1080p sli benchmarks vs single card isnt a huge difference like 4k

prolly not,i guess it would cpu bottleneck as hard as 1080p with a single ti would

My 1080 Tis feel overkill even at 3440x1440 100hz... At least in games that actually support SLI. You could easily get away with just a single 1080 Ti.

according to that, it seems on some games it actually is worse for performance

To be perfectly honest, 1440p 144hz isn't going to strain them very hard. Personally, I'm looking to upgrade to a 200hz ultrawide someday when I have money again. At that point, I feel like the cards will be a bit more justified. At the moment it's pure overkill without a lot of gain. lol

Have you run SLI before? You can do it but I would recommend against SLI 1080 TIs

1. Generally only AAA titles get SLI support.

2. Even in games that support SLI you generally don't get perfect scaling. So it's not 2x (100%) performance. In fact you'll probably be happy at even 1.6x (60%) scaling.

3. SLI can cause micro stuttering, where the 2 GPUs briefly get out of sync, and it feels terrible.

4. 144hz is really designed for twitch games like CS:GO or LoL where 1 frame is the difference between winning or dying and that amount of FPS can easily be pushed with a single 1060. 144hz isn't nearly as noticeable on AAA titles that focus more on visuals than twitch gaming. I usually game at 96hz and it's hard for me to tell the difference between 96fps and 60fps on Witcher 3.

5. Lastly your CPU will inevitably bottleneck you with 2 1080 TIs in SLI at 144fps.
