Does Avira suck?

Hi, title says it all, if so please recommend me another AV

 

And also! I want to turn on Periodic scanning on Windows Defender, is this safe with another AV? It says that they know there is another AV but we can do periodic scanning (not exactly the words but the same meaning)

Well, I use Avira + Malwarebytes. The real question is does Avira suck?

You use Avira? We are a rare species then

 

I was told on an earlier thread that I should use Windows Defender instead of Avira because "avira sucks"

Anyway should I enable use Periodic scanning?

Mine does AFAIK periodic scanning.

well i never had any virus or malware on my computer so 1.) i don't click any fishy links and 2.) it seems to kinda work

no avira does scan periodically. but dunno what defender does in the background, i never changed anything

I use Kaspersky Antivirus. That's probably the only thing I trust to run on my system, despite it being a memory hog. Only reason I recommend this over anything is because Kaspersky has saved my derriere on more than one occasion.

I've read that before. Really, what you should glean from it is that software is imperfect, and you shouldn't rely on security software as a primary means of protecting you. Safe computing comes first, which has been preached for a fair while now, but that doesn't fully negate using security software as a backup in case you screw up. 

 

The article has not convinced me to fully remove myself from security software.

You can run both Windows Defender periodic scanning and another AV at the same time.

I've used it before. Found it to be a little nicer than AVG when it comes to free ones.

 

Personally I use sophos since it's been fairly lightweight, and i have experience with it on the enterprise side.
