Hi all, this is a build idea that i have in mind for a gaming/workstation rig. I had previously worked around the idea of an x79 build but I found little use as I'm not really doing heavy intensive rendering, just some simple stuff and a bit of Unity and UDK.

My only concern with this build though is the air cooler which will most likely block the view of that sexy motherboard. I'm a bit hesitant however on making the switch to liquid cooling as I'm paranoid about leakages. Would love to have some feedback as to whether I should stick with the NH-D14 or if there's an alternative that would work be more suitable.

AIO (All-In-One) liquid coolers nowadays are pretty much 99.99% leakage secure so leakages wouldn´t be a problem with i.e a H100i :) It will also perform a lot better :)

Other then that I like Corsair so changing the PSu to a AX760i or Ax860i would be a good thing to consider if you want opinions on that ;)

Other then that: A really good build!

holy balls u do not need 1000w power supply maybe get a seasonic 760w or 660w as for the cooler i would get a swiftech h220 nothing to worry about with aio they wont leak and will look better than that ugly chunk of metal NH-D14 also your going to spend $170 on a case mostly made of plastic and looks like balls if i was u i would get something from fractal silverstone or corsair they look alot better imo but do what u want its your money lol.

sweet, thanks guys!

Corsair h100i and Seasonic 760w PSU it is then. The ax760i's and extra $60 over the seasonic

the reason why i chose the OCZ is because the red LED's matched the motherboard and the set of G.Skill sticks which I had previously considered. It's also slightly cheaper than the Corsair and Seasonic.

one last thing I probably won't be getting this build until the new year. should i stick with the 780ti or would it be better to just wait for EVGA to release the classified edition?

You need to tag (@username) or quote someones post (as I did above ;) ) in order for someone to get a notification from you :)

But anyway: I would personally not go EVGA at all so if you can wait until next year then get either the rumored 880s or the ASUS Direct CU 2 version of the 780ti :)

The reason for the AX760i being more pricy is that i comes with Corsair Link which is software that lets you monitor everything in your system and generally do whatever you want :) It is also higher quality and got some more features.

Cases are subjective, but what do you look for in a case? We might be able to point you in the direction of a better one ;)

@Titanicium Think I'll wait for a while and see what happens then. I read somewhere on videocardz.com that nVidia's planning on releasing it within the first half of next year though I'm not sure how accurate those predictions are.

As for cases, I'm generally looking for something of good value that has a sort of balance between performance and style. I don't particularly care so much about silence cause it doesn't really bother me that much as long as the noise isn't obnoxious.

My budget for a case is around $200. I was kinda drawn to the Phantom cause of the look, color scheme and the price point in contrast to something like the Obsidian or something from Silverstone. I also like some of its features such as the SSD mount on the back.

My local PC dealer where I might end up getting the parts from just started stocking the Carbide 540 Air which I'm kinda drawn to cause of it's height. But the width makes it kinda awkward cause I've got a rather short desk.

Where are you shopping/located?

The system is very expensive and doesn't give much performance for how much you're paying...

local store in sydney.  http://arc.com.au/

i've been looking at http://pccasegear.com/ which is down in melbourne but i'd feel more comfortable picking up the parts in store rather than having it shipped in.

My recommendations: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/2b6WX
