Heard a few beeping from my computer and suddenly started to see a lot of smoke coming from my desktop. Opened the PC and didn't see any smoke as my fans were on in the room. Tried sniffing around and couldn't find where the smell was coming from. I was literally just sitting on the desktop talking to some friends on Discord when this happened not while gaming or doing anything. Checked bios and it still read all my components Ram CPU and GPU not sure what else to do here. Any opinions here?

Sounds like your PSU is about to blow.

Sounds like PSU but hard to tell right now. What I would do is to  dissemble the PC and take a close look at every Component

What exactly would i be looking for? especially in the places where i can't see much such as inside the PSU or even inside the GPU

Get the PSU out of the case to check if their are any soot/anything other than dust on the fan grill.

take out the power supply , take it outside to like your garage or driveway and plug it in and jump the power wire to on and let it run to see if it finishes itself off.

Smoke in a pc only comes from blown capacitors so that's what you need to look for on your other components.

I did find this seems to have chipped but the computer still runs, left it on the bios menu for a good 5 mins no smoking or anything, could this be it?

Look at all contacts and on the PCBs. Some PSU have selftests.

It would help if we have all your specs

Specs are

i7 4770k

team vulcan ram

z97 msi gaming 3 motherboard

gtx 1080 8g msi

raidmax 850AE power supply

There are some pictures down on this post could that be the problem?

is your PC very dusty? dust can short a component, but it would then probably melt and burn away instantly. so a lot of dust in the PSU could have coused something like this. the advise of checking all the capacitors is also very good, there are some very big ones inside the PSU, those are kinda dangerous so be carefull with the PSU, if you think that the PSU has caused the smoke then you probably shouldn't open it unless you know what you are doing. I don't think that the PC would still boot if the big capacitors in the PSU were blown, so it is probably something else, I can't exclude the PSU completely however.

you mean the plastic housing 4r7? That's a coil. shouldn't smoke if blown up. This area is the audio circuit so if you checked everything else check if audio still works. But like mentioned before check psu than other components

I did open up the psu but seems to be okay did not see any cured capacitors. if it was my GPU that smoked wouldn't i have seen my computer screen glitching out? Also if i am not able to figure this out what would be the best replacements be? New PSU and MOBO?

that PSU is pretty dusty, start by cleaning it. the dust may have caused a short, and that would cause some smoke but probably not kill anything.

new psu would be the best replacement option (if you cannot find the component at fault)

Back up your data just in case the power supply tries to kill your other components like the drives

I have so much data that it would instantly be worth just to get a new PSU hahah thanks for helping man !!

would my motherboard be giving me beeps if the dust was causing a short?

if the dust shorts out the PSU that would mean either 120 or 230 volts. at that much voltage the dust would evaporate instantly, thus no longer shorting the PSU

no your motherboard beeps a very specific code when somthing is wrong with the hardware it'll say in the manual what the beeps mean.

I have found the issue its a line running from my fan controller to a fan what should be my solution and would running my setup still be harmful and i should still go for a new PSU?
