I'd go for a better power supply.

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FQ648d/corsair-power-supply-cp9020101na

In regards to lowering other parts to get an SSD, just buy windows from Kinguin for $25, use the $60 saved on a 120gb ssd to use as a boot drive.

I'd drop down to the Ryzen 1400 and get an SSD. Or get a Pentium G4560 and an H110 motherboard and an SSD.

You will get sick of that hard drive being a big hindrance to your user experience.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

That is a good choice!

Counting in rebates, your old pick is actually $2 cheaper

AM4 will have 2nd gen of CPU (maybe even 3rd gen), so if a lower budget is needed, the 1400 is ok. You can upgrade it without buying a new mobo in the future.

You PSU isn't terrible, but there are better ones at more or less the same price, like the Corsair CX450M. 450W is more than enough for your system

I'd go with an SSD, I can't imagine a computer without one. They're also not overly expensive, but try and get one that's 240GB+ as they generally have much better performance.

Ehhhh I dno I'd rather have more real cores. Ryzen isn't the crippled AM3 platform of old.

Im actually completely lost as to what monitor I should get, I have an old Dell monitor which is like 10 years old which i was planning to use.

I'd get something 1080p with that system, I prefer IPS but others prefer the quicker response times of TN.
