I was going through LTT's videos trying to think of something LMG could do that's DIY that' isn't stupid or ridiculous, so I decided to make a small guide on how to make your own GPU backplate out of acrylic.

Now obviously I'm not a professional, but I try. Keep comments constructive.

For this project you will need:

-GPU screwdriver (high end GPUs sometimes come with them)

-Acrylic sheet (I have lots)

-Spray paint (Optional)

-Stencil adhesive (Optional)

-Screws for the backplate (Semi-optional, explained later)

-Patience (I'm always running low it seems)

-GPU with existing backplate for template (Optional)

Step one: Remove backplate from GPU 1

Step Two: Cut the Plexiglas or Acrylic

Step 3: Drill Holes and Don't Give Up

Tip: measure thrice, cut once.

Step 4: Paint the Acrylic

It can be any color you like, but I chose black because I was out of Red.

If you want it to be glossy like this, paint the side of the plate that will be touching the GPU (underside).

Step 5: Wait for paint to dry

Step 6: Reassemble GPUs

Tip: Make the sink holes large, because if you screw them too tight, the springs will crack the acrylic (bottom right of the four)

Step 7: Put GPU in PC and test

Step 8: Enjoy!

Yeah, I agree, but I needed the plate off the 950 as a template. Doing this also helps keep the plate on, and to me it looks a bit cleaner.

It's more aesthetic than anything.

I also wanted to repaste the GPUs while I was at it, so I got many things done at once.

Plus, I don't have any thermal pads.

Yeah I'll probably do what I suggested to my 770

Yours looks better, probably spent more time on it

After the cuts, I used sand paper stapled on a flat piece of wood and would sand the edge flat.

For the paint I only did 2 layers and did a "carbon fiber trick" using tool drawer liner.

I also used double sided foam tape instead of drilling holes to screw it on.

It does look nice, when I get a little more practice I'll try that.

Is that vinyl tape?
