So I know this is a long shot. I have a Hyundai 2007 Santa Fe. Yesterday while I was driving my car felt like it was "hanging" a bit while accelerating. There'd be a very subtle bump. This went away then it came back. This morning it was maybe a little worse than yesterday. I went and got gas, after I was done fueling I started my car and the RPM gauge would bounce around from 200-ish to 1000 and after about 10 seconds or so the engine would shut off. The interior lights stayed on, the headlights, radio, and A/C. I drove it to my dad's office since there's a service shop across the street and I'm waiting for them to open. While I was driving it here the engine shut off while I was at a red light. I dunno what it could be :(

Could be fuel pump not getting enough fuel (or a correct consistency/flow) to the engine. But it could be something totally different.

But if you've already taken it to a shop, just wait for them to see what's wrong.

Had that problem before. You're probably idling very low because here are carbon deposits in your pistons. Simple fix, buy a 3 dollar canister of fuel pump cleaner. Dump the whole thing in. It's still gonna be rough for a day or so, until the liquid distributes into your fuel lines and cleans stuff out.

Could be a throttle position sensor, that should throw a DTC, so that means your check engine light would be on.

Could be something as simple as a sensor or hose that is cracked, or a vaccum line that is damaged and leaking.

IMO It just could be a bad spark plug if you have a atmospheric engine.

Little tip to remove some carbon deposits for "free" (well, petrol always has a cost), make an acceleration to almost red line once a week.

Haven't heard that trick before.

I should have a carbon deposit free engine then :D

To the OP, probably a sensor, most faults on modern engines are.

Sensors are also a possibility.

It's a friend of mine who works for a garage who explained this to me.

When you drive your engine at low rpm's the combustion reaches lower temp's, there's less pressure in the engine and so carbon builds up on the pistons and manifold.

Last I checked carbon deposits on newer cars are unlikely and extremely rare thanks to modern fuel injection.  My bets are on senors going off or cracked vacuum likes.   You issue sounds like a MAF sensor going bad.  Especially the stalling issue.

Hopefully you get it fixed.

If your check engine light you can pull the code by borrowing a code puller from an Auto Parts store like Autozone or advanced.

From the symptoms described your car is either not getting enough Spark, Gas, or Air.

Best case scenario a plug or a wire is bad/loose.

my 2016 dodge dart does this same crap when im low on oil. no idea why, but an oil change always fixes it.

why does your 2016 vehicle ever run low on oil? A vehicle that new shouldn't be burning oil or leaking unless you, or a previous owner, has seriously mistreated it.

Could be a defective part - which he should immediately get replaced for free under the warranty.

He could also be skipping service intervals where the oil would be changed.

I change the oil on my car every 15,000 KM (as per recommended following the maintenance schedule) and it's never gotten low before.

Yea i know, My question was mainly rhetorical because there are only 2 explanations.

My 2000 camry goes 3000 miles between oil changes and burns a single quart of oil in-between. Under normal circumstances a 2016 vehicle shouldn't have this sort of problem.

we put a lot of miles on the car, and we've only gotten that low twice.

but that car is a piece of shit. we got it brand new, and have had nothing but problems with it.

the air filter basically crumbled to dust, everything creaks for some reason, the brakes squeal, the wiring harness for the door had to be replaced, i keep getting a warning light saying the park light is out even though its not. and the low tire pressure light was on forever despite the dealership "putting air in it" had the sensor replaced twice then put air in it myself and holy shit the light turned off and hasnt come back on since.
