Budget 10gb network

Hey everyone,

Sorry if this is a noobish question but I was wondering if I can have a 10gb backbone for multiple 1gb clients and I was considering this,

https://routerboard.com/RB2011UiAS-RM

https://routerboard.com/CRS326-24G-2SplusRM

The only thing is that the routers sfp port is only sfp not sfp plus, will this restict my backbone's speed to 1 gb even though the switches or switch is 10gb.

Basicly I would have internnet into router, Sfp out of router and into sfp+ on switch from there to more Sfp+ ports on other switches.

Thanks

Why would you need a 10gbps backbone if you're only going to be serving 1gbps to your clients?

Do you have a 10gbps line coming into your home?

Just get a 10gig switch, no need for a 10gig router unless you have more than 1 gig going to you house/buiness.

Look at something like this https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=DChcSEwjvh82MsfbUAhWbtsAKHQwNBVUYABABGgJpbQ&sig=AOD64_3krd8XKKFchnq42nSLqkk4kBlSBQ&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwiVtMqMsfbUAhWE6IMKHe7OAmAQ2CkI1gMwAA&adurl=

A 10 Gb backbone with 1gb clients will only be useful if you have a 10gb server for feeding multiple computers on the network.

If it's not the case, it's not really worth the expense.

My advice would be: save some money to get everything to 10Gb once needed.

I got a LB4m switch for $60 and the 2 50' Fiber cables and transceivers cost me about $40 per.

I got my cables and transceivers form http://www.fs.com/

Thanks everyone, I was just wondering because I need some of those MikroTik switches and the 10gb was the same price as the only other rack mount option.

So just to clarify I have 100mb internet in.

So I can have a gigabit router do routing for multiple gigabit connections at the same time through a 10 gb backbone.

ya basically the router only has the switch connected so the switch handles local traffic and the router only handles IPs and internet traffic.

That is how I have mine, Modem to router, router to switch, switch feeds AP and PCs.

Or wait another year.  The new specs for 2.5G & 5G speeds over CAT6 were released late last year and products are just starting to make it to the market.  By this time next year, they should be available and hopefully at a good price.
