Bad performance on high-end PC?

I'm running a two-and-a-half year-old PC build with a GTX 970 and an i7 4790, but many games seem to be running at fairly low frames. Many games are capping and peaking at 60 FPS, while others are not even managing that. Is there any reason that this would be? I'd love some help here!

Are you using Windows 10 and have you installed any new drivers?

did you turn off v-sync option in your video/graphics setting? and what resolution are you playing at?

I am running Windows 7 because I love it, not sure about new drivers...

v-sync is ALWAYS off in my games, yup

I don't blame you. I highly recommend that you update your graphics drivers.

Games, settings, resolution? And has this just started or been gradual change?

The 970 is "fine" for 1080p most of the time - but beyond that it really struggles. That why I upgraded to a 1070.

I wouldnt call that hardware highend anymore. And what games are we talking about. Resolution, settings ect. That differs alot.

The GTX 970 is similar to a GTX 1060 regarding performance. That GPU also struggles to get 60FPS on most modern titles at 1080p at maximum quality.

 

So basically, the performance you're getting is expected.
