Hello everyone,

I been wanting to upgrade a pre-built computer that I bought at Best Buy awhile back. I am not much into pc gaming but only games that I do play is minecraft, Dota and some othere games here and there. I came here looking for some help on upgrading it. The computer I have is an HP Pavilion HPE h8-1214, here a link of the specs https://support.hp.com/ph-en/document/c03154290. I have a budget of 200-280. I was looking for some upgrades that can speed up my computer at the same time also improve gaming for me.

Thank you for the help

would recommend saving up a litle bit more and buy a new gpu (it doesnt have to be a crazy 1080ti a 1050 or 1060 will do the job for minecraft and dota) if you want to make your pc in general faster i recommend buying a ssd installing windows on the ssd aswell as the programs that start with your pc

I would pick up a GTX 1050 Ti and a 240gb ssd.

cpu is fine its a 6 core

cores dont mean anything. pretty much every 4 core i5 from the 2nd gen are better than the fx 6300.

fx 6300 is  a mediocre cpu and will bottleneck anything over like a 680 (or close)

That's not how things work.

For what he does and with his budget, that is how things work. He's not going to get a huge ipc bump for any FX chip he can put in that pc so his funds are best spent on graphics and ssd.

So its better to junk this and save to get a better pc? Took me awhile to save that much

I'd play it safe and upgrade the power supply too though if you were to follow that route, can find CX450/550M's or Seasonic S12II's on sale for $30-40 all the time.

Why not buy the graphics card and ssd first... see if that meets his needs. He needs those parts anyways... and if its not working out, then replace cpu and motherboard.

That's an option, i'm just showing him what he can get for overall better performance.

Was that bump a double post? really no need to bump a thread, especially when people are still replying to it :P

But he already has 10gb of ddr3.. why not buy a setup that can use that.

Well he could go for a used i5 3470, it'd cost about $140 for the cpu and a motherboard for it. (based on converting uk prices, not sure hm they go for in the US)

Would it be best if i first get a gpu like the zotac 1050ti RkRiley suggested and then slowly upgrade the rest of the parts? and if i do get that gpu would i need a better power supply?

Yeah, get the GPU and see if you still need more performance, then look at upgrading the cpu/mobo

I would get evga. No special power supply needed for 1050ti.
