torn between what cpu to get.. thinking i5 6600k and maybe the 6700k.

all i do is game, il mostly be playing AAA titles and mostly modded racing simulators but il be running a 1080ti.

Paired with a 1080 Ti, I think either an i7 or Ryzen would be much better.

If you've got a 1080 ti, you would definitely want a i7 6700(k). An i5 would bottleneck it quite severely.

7700 with poor TIM > 6700 with normal TIM

especially on the non K models

Nope, here in Canada a 7700 is 60 bucks more - wait nope it used to be 440 bucks versus 380, looks like they both cost 410 now
