If your going with the most recent chipset release like haswell a core i5 will do fine, unless you need the extra hyper threaded cores which enable to actively have 8 virtual cores for more intensive multi-threaded applications. In the even you decide to go with ivy..erm.. you'll be saving some money although I don't quite know the price differences of both i7 3770k and the 4770k.

But if this build is solely dependent upon gaming at 60 FPS+ full hd+ then buy a beastly graphics card since that is the most common route to go down. Also if you need something don't skimp out on it. This pc will need to last atleast two to 3 years and save yourself some money here and there.

Please become a member of the Linus Tech Tips forum, keep writing smug remarks & let us love you. Peace out.

i5 4670K

different motherboard, MPOWER is overkill. Go with sth like a MSI Z87 G45 Gaming if you can

CPU cooler to a bequiet Dark Rock Pro 2 or Noctua NH-D14

change PSU to Corsair AX 760 (i)

Use the saved money for two R9 290 non-reference cooler, if they didn't laser cut the option to flash it to a R9 290X. If they did with the non-reference designs, get 2 290X.

Invest the remaining 400 dollar in beer. Btw. start mining Litecoin or other Scrypt currencies with those two 290(X). :D

who cares...

go for a 4770K if its a new build and the Z87 MPower if you wish although a cheaper board could be an option for you

I would like to keep the Z87 MPower since it would help if I were to add more graphics cards in the future.  Unless if there is a better option I would take it.

Changing it now since the price should drop.

The performance seems to be an increase in FPS by about 30 FPS for some games.

Unless you're sure you'll sli, you shouldn't. Most people who plan to sli/cf end up just getting a better, cheaper single graphics card when they need to upgrade.

I could replace the 780 with a 780 Ti but it depends.  If the price drops before Christmas I will be switching to the Ti since it offers better performance.

The 780 Ti is a bad value.

try get a nice asus board , as these are amazing for overclocking and have amazing bios

It won't make a difference what z87 mobo he gets to oc unless he's doing some extreme oc's--I'm talking liquid nitrogen oc'ing tournament extreme.

Is the Maximus VI Hero good?

Yes. Is it worth the money? Probably not.

Thanks :D

One more question, does my build have adequate cooling and/or should I change something else?

Yes, I just wanted to know if I have enough cooling in the H100i and the Corsair fans.

Overkill. Also, corsair fans are quite loud.

What about the monitor?

The build looks a lot more expensive than it needs to be.

2000 USD, right?

I am going to swap out the stock fans in the H100i with something else due to the large amount of noise they generate, or would the CM Hyper 212 Evo be good enough for my setup?  I MAY upgrade from a 780 to a 780 Ti, it just depends on the price.

PS: would a Fractal Design case be better or should I stick with the N600?

I plan on getting an Acer G246HL 24'', it is only a 60Hz monitor so the 780 may be a bit overkill :P

What do you recommend?
