Mining with gtx960

would it be bad to do it with my gaming pc?

would it destroy my GPU if I do it 24/7 even if I underclock it so it never gets too hot.

it wont destroy your PC, i just simple dont reccomend it, You wont make as much as you would hope, and the energy bill may counteract the money you gain. Do your research on how much you or your parents pay for electricity.

It won't destroy it, it's just a really bad idea that will cost more in electricity than the pittance it spits out for the work.

If the idea of pennies thrills you, go for it.

Can try this as a starting point:

https://www.nicehash.com/?p=calc

Using US$0.15 per kWh (my local rate) it is estimating $0.75 profit a day. I think I found the calculator a little optimistic in the past so count on it being a bit lower still. You can decide from there if it is worth it.

Gaming system: R7 7800X3D, Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming Wifi, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB, Corsair Vengeance 2x 32GB 6000C30, RTX 4070, MSI MPG A850G, Fractal Design North, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Productivity system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, 64GB ram (mixed), RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, random 1080p + 720p displays.
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

At that rate, it takes 2 weeks of mining to equate to one hour of minimum wage (depending on state). That's pretty bad.

Different people have different value expectations. If you were to do this purely for profit, it is hardly worth the risk/effort. If you change perspective slightly, it might not be so bad. When I mine on the side, I do not consider the up front cost since I have already got it. Then it simply becomes income vs. costs, with a possible factor into risks like out of warranty deaths. Even at dollars per day, I don't feel it that significant, but added up over a month it doesn't look too bad. Unlike minimum wage, here you don't have to do anything after installing it and pressing start.

It is unfortunate that this is happening in northern hemisphere summer, so most of us will have to also worry about cooling. If it was in winter, at least you could offset running costs since it is providing useful heating then.
