What do you use to record the min/max/avg fps in games?

I'd like it to be free if possible, thanks!

Many games have in-game benchmarks that provide this information. If not, then the most common tool used in the industry is Fraps, which is a one time 30$ charge iirc from when I bought mine many moons ago.

Ideally you want to use the game fps counter as it is more accurate

FRAPS doesn't give you the actual current fps, it does an average.

For Steam games I have the fps counter enabled.

Otherwise Fraps is what I use for GOG games.  I think in a recent GOG Galaxy update they added some sort of fps counter but I think that might only show an fps count when the overlay thing is showing.  (Basically same or similar to the overlay thing that steam has.)

I know Fraps has free and paid versions but I don't remember what the paid version gives you.

I both MSI Afterburnet and EVGA Precision XOC have an OSD than can be configured to show some sort of fps counter.  Though idk if XOC is available if you don't have an EVGA card.  I think afterburner is better anyway.

Just remember if if you use afterburner to install Rivatuner when it prompts you to since that's what afterburner uses for the OSD.

Though idk if these are current fps for steam/afterburner/XOC or an average like Goodbytes is claiming. (I say claiming because I personally don't know if that's correct or not.)
