Hello everyone,

my current build is:

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/miky26/saved/vW4LkL

I'm building this computer for my mom which will use it mainly to watch movies, browse or work connected to her principal tower through a remote desktop connection. Now, this looks like a pretty good build to me, but I was wondering if there were any better case solutions (this computer needs to be SMALL). The case that I picked is pretty small, but 1/3 of it is dedicated for an external video card that I'm not looking to install, wasting the space on the case.

My question is, in your opinion, should I still stick with this case (it has pretty good reviews around) or there might be a better solution that fits these needs?

Thank you for your time,

JohanAngel

I would switch to a G4560 and use stock cooler instead, other than that it looks great.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

If you get rid of the cooler, you can get a Ryzen 1400 for the same price.  You'll have to switch the motherboard, but you get double the cores and double the threads.

@Jurrunio why is that HTPC better for me in your opinion?

Made cheaper in such a way that doesn't affect her experience.

For the case, I just picked the cheapest HTPC case. They are all about the same size.

Actually, thinking about it now, 128GB SSD is only good as boot drive. It will need a hdd or 250gb ssd to actually store something. However, you mentioned that it will be connected to her main system via internet, so I think just the 128gb ssd will be enough.

Just throwing this out there is case you decide you want one that could actually play a game.  If you can find a GTX 750 Ti used, that would be good too.  If you don't want to game, just get the cheapest used PCIe card you can find.  Ryzen doesn't come with an iGPU.

I made several changes, but two are very important.  I had to change the case.  The dimensions are 5.94"x17.32"x12.8".  I don't know if that works.  I dropped you to 8GB of RAM, because that's not really necessary for this kind of machine.  It won't even use 8GB.
