A good build?

Jim Liu

Hi,

I'm a student and would like to build a pc. I already have a GPU (gtx 960) and would like my build to be around $700 to $750 (before tax) CAD. I am planning to do some gaming (1080p), video editing, and programming. I would also like this pc to last for a while. Any help is appreciated.

(I already, have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers)

(I could probably get the i7 6700k for $300 on ebay)

Thanks,

A B250 mobo will not allow overclock. Therefore, even if you buy a 6700k at $300, you are still over budget.

It's tier 5 out of 7.

That is low quality.

Let me repeat what I said on the other post, it will not explode. It can handle an overclock, it is a great budget solution.

Haven't seen this list before?

According to jonnyguru.com, this unit isn't that bad, there's just better units at this price range.

smaller but faster ram. In Ryzen's case, fast ram is more important even if it means 8gb instead of 16gb.

No tons of people use them look at Mclovin he uses a 600 watt 80 rated PSU with a 8350 and 960 he is using a tier 6 with that and his PC hasn't blown past bronze PSUs are good

Im mostly on discord now and you can find me on my profile

You do know the bronze/silver/gold etc ratings are only an efficieny rating, nothing to do with the quality of the unit? (though generally, higher quality = higher efficiency)

Even some cheapo chinese psu's are bronze rated, and they're never worth the risk of using.

The point of it is it's not worth the risk of using it, they're rated as low quality for a reason, in that they're more likely to break and/or take out other components with them.

I never stated you were or tried to make out that you were? I was explaining why your statement "bronze PSUs are good" was wrong, what the hell's your problem lol.

And honestly an "integrated" OEM psu like from a dell optiplex would most likely be better than that 450 watt evga one that was chosen.

No OEMs are never good not even 80+ sometimes and bronze PSUs are good because in budget systems they are the best you can get
