2016 MacBook Pro gaming resolution

Hello, so I have had my 2016 base MacBook Pro for a while now and something that I have noticed is that a lot of games can only run at 1440x900 or lower. 

 

Does anyone know why this is so? I mean its not like I could game at this things native resolution but some easier games like Transistor and The Silent Age are stuck running at resolutions that do not make the game look as good as it should.

Apple's display scaling, not sure if your computer can play those games at native resolution on OSX.

I figured as such. Those games would run fine, they are 2D and the textures aren't enough to make the Iris GPU die. 

 

Yeah I checked in Displays and default is 1440x900

Metal runs games just fine, not as good as DX or Vulkan I think but the only reason macOS sucks at gaming is the heavy reliance on OpenGL and lack of dGPUs (until recently)

My MacBook is just my laptop, I have a desktop for gaming but having light games like Portal 2, Papers Please, Transistor, and such are nice. 

 

Surprisingly I can run World of Warships and War Thunder on the Iris 540 GPU in this thing just fine.

Yes but they are really light and wow Iris graphics are better than an Igpu?

That's interesting.... I'm 99.99% positive I've played CSGO/dota 2 (well set the resolution anyway) at 2880x1800.

 

You can probably download switchresx and that will solve your problem.

Iris graphics are actually not bad. People say "ahh MacBooks don't have dGPUs unless you pay for the most expensive ones" when in reality the Iris GPU is so powerful you don't really need a dGPU for what the machines are intended for.

My MacBook Pro is my reliable PC. I could have bought a Windows laptop but I cannot be at Microsofts mercy when I'm out doing work or need to write a paper but my PC wants to update and BSOD itself 

 

Not to mention I am heavily invested in Apple that it only made sense to get a Mac otherwise I'm just making things harder on myself.

I bought one for Logic Pro and because I have almost failed History because of the creator's update

I'm not hating on them most of my family uses macs and there decent (although expensive)
