Time for Ryzen?

Well... my motherboard is dead. Which means it's time to upgrade. The question I have is simple enough: is Ryzen ironed out enough now that we can safely say Ryzen is a great option, or are there still too many kinks to feel comfortable with that recommendation?

Go for it. What's your current system? See if it's cheaper to get a new board vs going to Ryzen first.

If system is old, Ryzen all day. If it's a modernish Intel build, replace the board.

Board is an ASRock Z87 Extreme 4. I had already started replacing the board and ran into a couple issues with the used one I bought and started thinking if I should just bite the bullet and buy a new system.

New question then... how is the 1700 different from the 1700X? Let's say I clock them identically, the only difference on the spec sheet is the TDP, which I've never truly understood anyway. 

 

The review from EuroGamer mentioned that the 1700 used 45W more than the 1800X when clocked at its 4.1 Ghz max. So since the 1700X has the same TDP as the 1800X will that help level out the power consumption?
